1) MTD is having a community transit talk regarding the future of MTD in the midst of challenging economic times.

In the midst of an economic crisis, MTD will have to make some tough choices when drafting the 2009-2010 budget. The recent passed state budget will cut almost $3 million dollars from MTD's budget. With the demand for services increasing in some lines and a tighter MTD budget, bus riders need to voice their concerns and suggestions to help MTD make the right choices. The meeting will be:

Friday March 13th, 2008

5:30pm

550 Olive Street

(MTD Office Facility)

The Sustainable Transit Users Coalition (STUC) composed of AFSCME, Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice Santa Barbara Chapter, Coalition for Sustainable Transportation, Santa Barbara County Action Network, PUEBLO Education Fund and the Women Political Committee Santa Barbara Chapter, applauds MTD's efforts to outreach to bus riders especially in these challenging times. Outreaching to bus riders for priorities and ideas is a great first step to make MTD a more efficient, affordable and reliable service.

"MTD is trying to do a good thing by creating a space for the community to voice their opinion and ideas regarding the future of public transportation in Santa Barbara. But our working class bus rider community has to be part of this and future conversations" Nayra Pacheco, a frequent bus rider and a PUEBLO transportation advocate.

It is VERY important for busriders to be present at MTD's community talk. This will ensure that any future planning from MTD will always have the frequent busriders priorities in mind.

Bus riders can also voice their opinion by calling MTD's number: 805-963-3364.

The MTD Board meeting held last week, where they conducted the mid-year budget review will be shown on cable TV-18. Mark your calendar to see or record the last TV replay: Tuesday, 10th March, 9:30 AM.

3) Santa Maria Youth Leader in Washington DC

Noe Ferreira, a Santa Maria activist and a PUEBLO member, was in Washington DC this week to meet with members of congress and Senators. Noe represented PUEBLO members in the Campaign for Community Values to advance positive policies in the new administration for immigrants, low-wage workers and universal healthcare for all Americans. Noe spent the week lobbying with nine other grassroots leaders from different part of the country.

During the first 100 days of President Obama's administration, a team of grassroots leaders has been going to Washington each week. These visits build on both the success of the 2007 Heartland Presidential Forum-in which 4,000 grassroots leaders joined with five presidential candidates before the Iowa primaries to discuss the real issues that affect low-income people across the country- as well as the Realizing the Promise Forum held with 2,500 grassroots leaders in December in Washington. More than 200 community organizations working on the local, state and national level are working with this campaign to claim a seat at the table where decisions are made that shape the future of the country.

4)Housing committee: Tenants Know your rights workshop

Last Sunday February 22nd PUEBLO's Housing Committee organized a Know your Rights as a Tenant Forum. There were about 30 families in attendance from Isla Vista, Goleta and Santa Barbara. "Everyone in our communities should know their rights and responsibilities as tenants, the information that we gave at the event was great, very informative! This is the only way that we can bring change by learning our rights and advocating for them" said Isaac Catalan, a housing committee leader. The event would not have been possible without the support, information and resources provided by Legal Aid Foundation, California Rural Legal Assistance, La Casa de la Raza, Rental Housing Mediation Taskforce and the Housing Rights Center in Los Angeles. Housing Committee meetings are every other Tueday at 6:30pm at the PUEBLO office. Join us!

5) Immigration Committee: delegations. OBAMA has our book!

The Immigration Committee had delegations during the months of January and February with all of the city council members, our current mayor, Supervisor Doreen Farr, Supervisor Janet Wolf and Congresswoman Lois Capps. During the legislative visits the committee members had an open and honest talk with the elected officials about immigration and gifted the elected officials our newly publish book In the Shadows of Paradise. "Our message is that immigration is not just a federal issue, there are things that we can do at the local level to show solidarity with the immigrant community" said Dora Perez, Immigration Committee leader. By coincidence our legislative visit with Santa Barbara Mayor Marty Blum came before her trip to Washington for the Mayor's meeting that the Obama administration organized. She enthusiastically agreed to take a book to Washington and make sure that Obama received it. Obama now has our book! Join our Immigration Committee meetings every other Wednesday at 6:00pm at the PUEBLO office.

10) Make a contribution to PUEBLO!

"Whatever you do may seem insignificant, but it is most important that you do it."

-- Mahatma Gandhi

We've received donations to help us match the $15,000 anonymous donation we received in January. But, we still have a very long way to go.

This January PUEBLO received a very generous anonymous donation in the amount of $15,000 dollars. Gifts like these are rare and we are extremely grateful to the donor, whoever they are. And, as a way to show our gratitude we are asking our supporters, including those who've already given in the last few months, to help us match this gift.

A few months ago we received a donation of $3 from a very grateful woman who had been directly impacted by PUEBLO's organizing efforts of her fellow tenants in her apartment complex. Her $3 donation was without question of great sacrifice to her and her family since she, along with 30 other families faced certain eviction. But, she gave because she understood the impact PUEBLO had in the community.

Everyone is talking about the economy and the challenges all non-profits will face in the next couple of years as resources begin to shrink. But, it is precisely in times like these when your donation, of whatever size matters most. It doesn't matter if you can give $5 or $5,000, what matters is that you give.

Let's turn $15,000 into $30,000!

At PUEBLO we talk, we organize, we mobilize!

Please send checks made out to PUEBLO to 114 E. Haley St. Suite E, Santa Barbara, CA 93101 and make sure to write "match" in the memo. Or, give us a call if you would like to donate using your credit or debit card.

Even in the most sexually liberated and self-satisfied of nations, many people still yearn to burn more, to feel ready for bedding no matter what the clock says and to desire their partner of 23 years as much as they did when their love was brand new.
The market is saturated with books on how to revive a flagging libido or spice up monotonous sex, and sex therapists say “lack of desire” is one of the most common complaints they hear from patients, particularly women.
